Sotto Sotto located at 313 N. Highland Ave., NE in Atlanta is Riccardo Ullio’s flagship restaurant. If you want nicely cooked risotto, here’s where you’ll find it. Half portions are easily accomplished not only with risotto, but also with all of the pasta choices. Whole roasted fish is a study in the grand simplicity of Italian cooking. Order a platter of antipasti misti for the table as a good starter, with its arrangement of prosciutto, salami, olives and cheeses. The classic panna cotta, a simple mound of trembling white custard, comes with a sauce of reduced balsamic vinegar. Sotto’s well-chosen all-Italian wine list complements the food, and there are plenty of choices available by the glass.
Osteria 832 located at 832 N Highland Ave NE in Atlanta was designed by General Manager Lisa Cooper. Popular appetizers include mussels in a white wine and garlic or pomodoro sauce, fresh-baked focaccia bread and field greens with fennel, tomato, olives, and white wine vinaigrette. As for entrees, the simple dishes include Gorgonzola pasta with spinach in a light cream sauce, pancetta pasta with mushrooms and peas in a parmesan cream sauce, and 11 different thin crust pizzas cooked in a woodstone oven.
Sugo located at 408 S Atlanta St # 110 in Roswell focuses on Mediterranean cuisine that includes Italian, Greek, and Spanish influences. To accentuate the flavors of this unique fare we use estate bottled extra-virgin olive oils, aged balsamic vinegars, and imported cheeses. Their menu caters to all tastes; however there are two dishes that stand out among all the others. The Lamb Saltimbocca is a Lamb tenderloin dressed with prosciutto di Parma ham, basil and Asiago cheese and the signature pork tenderloin braciole is served with pasta pouches stuffed with four cheeses and tossed with a lamb and tomato a jus sauce and is finished with an aged balsamic glaze and extra virgin olive oil. These two dishes have won the restaurant numerous awards and for good reason, one taste of these dishes and you will be sold on Sugo for years to come
Veni Vidi Vici located at 1201 W Peachtree St NW in Atlanta offers hearty portions of handmade pasta, rotisserie meats and delectable desserts at this chic Italian Trattoria. Located in the heart of midtown and just blocks away from Atlanta. Food conquers all at this lively restaurant, which specializes in savory northern Italian cuisine. One is encouraged to start off with grilled octopus or veal meatballs. Wood-grilled calamari and shrimp on chickpea purée are also great choices to start with as well. From there, one can choose from an array of handmade pastas and breads. Main dishes include rotisserie meats from the wood-burning oven, suckling pig with Savoy cabbage, and the ever-popular veal shank osso bucco. Or perhaps the huge and tender flattened veal chop, with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese. They also have a delicious gnocchi, especially the dish that is sauced with Gorgonzola cream and shredded prosciutto. All fresh pastas are made in-house and they come al dente. The Agnolotti filled with minced rotisserie meats is one of the most satisfying rich meals on the menu. This restaurant has become a staple in the Atlanta restaurant scene and seems to be reinventing itself daily to keep diners coming back.
Oscar’s Villa Capri located at 2090 Dunwoody Club Dr in Atlanta has the charm of a small, family-owned place which keeps Oscar’s repeat visitors coming back for more. The menu focuses on Southern Italian cusine with the menu offering an abundance of seafood and veal dishes, along with chicken, beef, and pastas. Salmon and lobster are especially favored, and veal chops are a classic. Generous portions are appropriate with the prices, and comfort is easily cultivated in the unassuming place. La Grotta Ristorante Italiano located at 2637 Peachtree Rd NE in Atlanta has been voted the Best Italian Restaurant by Atlanta Magazine for 16 years in a row, the AAA Four Diamond Award recipient for 15 years and long time winner of the Di Rona Award. At La Grotta one can enjoy traditional Northern Italian appetizers like the Vitello Tonnato to fresh homemade pastas like Goat Cheese Stuffed Ravioli. Other Menus items feature Grilled Veal Chop, Roasted Venison Chops and Filet Mignon with Melted Gorgonzola. Upscale offerings include roasted sausage-stuffed quail, black-and-white linguini. This is an excellent Italian experience from start to finish at this Atlanta restaurant.
Enoteca Carbonari located at 710 Peachtree St. NE in Atlanta aims to replicate the feeling, food and wine of an authentic Italian restaurant. But start with a selection of cured meats, choosing anywhere from two to six items from a long list. Also recommended are the grilled pancetta-wrapped scallions. The prosciutto that is offered is outstanding. The mozzarella is a buffalo milk cheese, soft and delicate, and served with capers, sun-dried tomatoes and minced olives. Everything from eggplant Parmigiana to grilled steak is worth a trip to this Italian restaurant. For dessert, check out the goat’s milk ricotta-lemon cheesecake. And, of course, don’t miss the espresso; even the decaf is worthy. The wine list plumbs the depths of Italian wines, and many excellent choices are offered by the glass.
